A kindle fan had been asking us about the Kindle Paperwhite model we sell on our website: why is it that we are selling “Kindle Paperwhite 2014”?
Another asked us how can we have the 2014 model when Amazon doesn’t carry it.
And some of our customers in Malaysia, who were shocked by our next day delivery process, couldn’t believe that there can be too good a thing. We must be shipping them 2013, instead of the 2014 model, they said, or else how can we get the shipment out so fast?
To our beloved customers, we want to say that
- Yes, Amazon does carry the 2014 model. I am not too sure about other countries, but if you go to the US and buy a Kindle Paperwhite from Amazon US, then the model that you get is always the 2014 model.
- Yes, we are really shipping the Kindle Paperwhite 2014 model, not 2013 one
So the Kindle Paperwhite that you get is really a 2014 model. Make no mistake. There can really be too good a thing!
Now, how can I tell whether I am getting a 2013 or a 2014 model for my Kindle Paperwhite?
You can distinguish the 2014 from the 2013 model from the following aspects:
From Serial Number
For Kindle Paperwhite 2014, the serial number starts with a number, i.e. 9XX XXX XXX XXX XXXX.
For Kindle Paperwhite 2013, the serial number starts with a letter B.
The serial number of Kindle Paperwhite can be found by switch on your kindle device, then go to the Settings->Device Info. See the Serial Number line as shown below:
Alternatively, you can find the serial number by going to the box and see the sticker, as shown below:
The 2014 Kindle Paperwhite has 4GB storage (as stated at the back of the box). However, the Kindle Paperwhite 2013 has 2GB.
You can plug in your Kindle Paperwhite to your laptop, and see the disk size.
Or, you can go to your Device Info on your Kindle to see the difference:
If you are still unsure how to judge, you can contact Amazon support, and provide them with the serial number. They will be happy to help you on this matter.
